EUR/USD Forecast: Will It Break 1.1600? US Jobs Data & Eurozone Retail Sales in Focus (2026)

EUR/USD Price Forecast: A Currency Pair's Resilience Amid US Dollar Weakness

The Euro (EUR) is showing its mettle, maintaining its strength against the US Dollar (USD) despite the latter's broad pressure. As of the Asian trading session on Thursday, EUR/USD is trading at 1.1555, reflecting the US Dollar's decline due to poor employment data.

The US Dollar Index (DXY), a key gauge of the Greenback's value, is down at 99.65, indicating two consecutive days of losses. This downturn is largely attributed to the ADP report, which revealed a disappointing 44,000 private sector payrolls added in July, significantly lower than the estimated 70,000 and the previous month's 98,000.

The upcoming Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) data for July, to be released on Friday, is expected to provide further insights into the US labor market. TD Securities anticipates a modest improvement, with NFP expected to rise to 70,000 after the June surprise of 57,000. This forecast aligns with the stable labor market backdrop, as the unemployment rate is predicted to remain at 4.2%.

On the Eurozone front, the focus shifts to the Retail Sales data for June, which will be published at 09:00 GMT. This data will further illuminate the economic health of the Eurozone.

EUR/USD Technical Analysis: A Bullish Outlook

The EUR/USD pair is currently trading at 1.1554, having recovered for a week. A decisive break above the downward resistance trend line at 1.1538 could turn it into a pivot point, reinforcing a constructive bias. The price is also above the 20-period exponential moving average (EMA) at 1.1472, indicating strong dip-buying interest.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) at 64 is in bullish territory but not yet overbought, suggesting that the pair is in a healthy uptrend. Initial support is found near the former trend-line break at 1.1538, with deeper demand expected around the 20-period EMA at 1.1472. If the pair fails to hold the 20-day EMA, it could return to the July low at 1.1353.

However, the pair's upward trajectory is contingent on stabilizing above the downward-sloping trendline, which could extend the advance towards 1.1600 and eventually the May 29 high at 1.1686.

Economic Indicator: ADP Employment Change

The ADP Employment Change is a critical indicator of private sector employment in the US. A rise in this indicator has positive implications for consumer spending and economic growth, making it traditionally bullish for the US Dollar. Conversely, a low reading is seen as bearish.

The ADP report is often considered a harbinger of the Bureau of Labor Statistics' NFP release, as the two series are highly correlated. However, discrepancies can occur, and traders follow this report to gauge inflationary pressures and the likelihood of the Fed raising interest rates. Actual figures beating consensus tend to be USD bullish.

In conclusion, the EUR/USD pair's resilience amid US Dollar weakness is a fascinating development. The technical analysis suggests a bullish outlook, with potential for further gains. The ADP Employment Change indicator, while not always a perfect predictor, provides valuable insights into the US labor market and its impact on the currency pair.
